NHTSA announced on August 17, 2006, a formal agreement with the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers and the Association of International Automobile Manufacturers to ensure that all vehicles sold in the U.S. with automatic transmissions will be equipped with "brake transmission system interlocks" to prevent children from moving the shift mechanisms out of park. Click on the links below for a copy of the letter and details of the agreement. Also available is a list provided by the manufacturers of 2007 models equipped with BTSI.
