General
GSA established this award to motivate federal agencies to improve real property management. The program recognizes an agency's success and communicates cutting-edge ideas to agencies striving to improve their real property asset management. GSA focuses on two topic areas for the award program: Asset Management and Sustainability.
The primary goal of this program is to recognize the variety of existing accomplishments and excellence provided by environmental practitioners in adhering to the principles of the National Association of Environmental Professionals (NAEP). The NAEP National Environmental Excellence Award competition is not a membership oriented competition and is expressly created to consider nominations from all interested environmental professionals, their agencies, companies and so forth from across the country. The awards are presented during the annual March NAEP conference. Nominations are typically due the end of September.
Agency-Specific
DOE Energy Management Awards recognize exemplary DOE programs, facilities, and individuals who promote the goals of the Secretary's TEAM Initiative and show superior leadership in effective, efficient energy management.
This is an internal DOE award program to recognize exemplary performance in integrating environmental stewardship practices to reduce risk, protect natural resources, and enhance site operations.
Recognizes exceptional achievements at every U.S. Department of the Interior organizational level.
These are annual awards in the areas of natural resources, cultural resources, environmental restoration, pollution prevention, and environmental quality. These are annual awards celebrating the previous years' accomplishments/innovations. Nominations are typically accepted until March and the awards given in June.
The objectives of the Secretary of the Army Energy and Water Management Award Program are to recognize the energy and water conservation achievements and programs of individuals, small groups, and garrisons and to provide an added incentive to further reduce energy and water consumption.
Recognizes and rewards excellence in environmental stewardship with the U.S. Army.
Since 1979, DOE has recognized extraordinary staff with awards presented through its In-House Energy Management Program, which is now part of FEMP under the Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. The program recognizes staff for their outstanding contributions toward energy and dollar savings at DOE facilities and field organizations.
Air Emissions
The Awards Program annually recognizes and honors both individuals and organizations that have undertaken the risks of innovation, served as pioneers in their fields, and have helped to improve air quality.
This award honors the extraordinary accomplishments of individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to protecting the environment.
This award recognize exceptional leadership, personal dedication, and technical achievements in protecting the Earth’s stratospheric ozone layer.
Cultural Resources
The AASLH conducts its Annual Awards Program to establish and encourage standards of excellence in the collection, preservation, and interpretation of state, and local history throughout North America.
Presented by the National Trust, it is given to individuals and organizations whose contributions demonstrate excellence in historic preservation.
Established in 1994 to recognize lifetime contributions and special achievements by an archaeologist in one of three areas: program administration and management, site preservation, and research. Each year the award is given in one area on a rotating basis.
EMS
This program recognizes outstanding achievements of Federal employees and their facilities for efforts which resulted in significant contributions to, or have made a significant impact on, promoting environmental stewardship. The awards focus on waste prevention, recycling, green purchasing activities, environmental management, green/sustainable buildings, electronics stewardship, alterative fuel use and reduced fuel usage under Executive Order 13423, "Strengthening Federal Environmental, Energy, and Transportation Management."
Energy
This award recognizes leading companies and organizations for their outstanding contributions to environmental protection and energy efficiency through their partnerships with ENERGY STAR.
Each year, FEC Facility Partners may apply for and receive annual recognition at one of three levels - Gold, Silver or Bronze. To qualify for an award, a Facility Partner must meet the eligibility requirements and complete the checklist of activities for a specific level. Award applications are due at the end of January every year. This award is sponsored by the Office of the Federal Environmental Executive and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Each year the U.S. Department of Energy, in conjunction with the Federal Interagency Energy Policy Committee ("656" Committee), sponsors the Federal Energy and Water Management Awards. These awards honor individuals and organizations making significant contributions to the efficient use of energy and water resources in the Federal government.Awards recognize outstanding achievements in the following areas:
  • Conservation and efficient use of energy and water New and emerging energy technologies
  • Innovative strategies, best practices, and applications
  • Renewable energy sources
  • Alternative financing
  • Energy-efficient mobility by the Federal government
To promote wise energy and water use throughout the Federal government, agencies are showcasing cost-effective energy efficiency, water-conserving, and renewable energy technologies in their facilities. Since 1995, FEMP has recognized many sites as Federal Energy Saver Showcases. A showcase plaque prominently displayed at each showcase site informs visitors that the government building they are entering uses energy and water, as well as taxpayer dollars, wisely. Summaries of the award winning efforts since 2001 are found at this website.
The Presidential Awards for Leadership in Federal Energy Management honor Federal employees for their support, leadership, and efforts in promoting and improving Federal energy management. The awards program is required by Executive Order 13123. Specifically, these Awards recognize outstanding achievements in the following areas:
  • Conservation and efficient use of energy and water
  • New and emerging energy technologies
  • Innovative strategies, best practices, and applications
  • Renewable energy sources
  • Alternative financing
  • Energy-efficient mobility by the federal government.

Green Buildings
The annual awards are based on published criteria approved by the CMRA Board of Directors and are intended to highlight and provide distinction to those that have accepted the challenge to define and expand the industry served by the CMRA. The four awards are:
  • Facility of the Year is for recognition of a facility that is actively recycling or diverting construction and demolition materials from landfills. The facility must show substantial contributions to the C&D recycling industry.
  • Recycler of the Year is for recognition to an individual in the construction and demolition recycling industry who has made superior and substantial contributions to his/her company or industry in achieving sound operating practices, including marketing materials.
  • Governmental Recycling Program of the Year is for recognition to a public sector recycling program that provides substantial contributions in construction and demolition recycling.
The intent of the competition is to shape the future of green building and facilitate local building materials reuse.
The Office of the Federal Environmental Executive (OFEE) recognizes individuals, teams and installations for excellence in implementing Executive Order 13101, "Greening the Government Through Waste Prevention, Recycling and Federal Acquisition," and Executive Order 12856, "Federal Compliance with Right-to-Know Laws and Pollution Prevention Requirements."
Natural Resources
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 5 and the Chicago Wilderness consortium sponsor the Conservation and Native Landscaping Awards to recognize outstanding efforts by corporations, park districts and municipalities to use native plants in the landscape or use conservation development practices within the Chicago Wilderness region.
The Gulf Guardian Awards were created in 2000 by the partnership of the Gulf of Mexico Program to recognize environmental excellence in Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas. Award categories are: Business, Government, Civic/Nonprofit Organization, Youth/Education, Partnerships, and Individual.
The Foundation has three annual awards to recognize outstanding achievements in the renewable resources fields. The Sustained Achievement Award recognizes a long-term contribution and commitment to the protection and conservation of natural resources by an individual. The Outstanding Achievement Award recognizes a project, publication, piece of legislation, or similar concrete accomplishment that occurred during the three years prior to nomination for the award. (An individual cannot receive this award.) RNRF's Excellence in Journalism Award, established in 2001, honors and encourages excellence in print journalism about natural resources.
The awards program of the Soil and Water Conservation Society is designed to recognize individuals and organizations who have made outstanding contributions in advocating the conservation of soil, water and related natural resources.
Pollution Prevention
This is an internal DOE award program to recognize exemplary performance in integrating environmental stewardship practices to reduce risk, protect natural resources, and enhance site operations.
These annual awards are presented to businesses and organizations in Illinois that have helped the environment and the economy of Illinois by successfully reducing the generation of gaseous, liquid, and solid waste. Any Illinois public or private business or organization is eligible to apply for an award.
The CHALLENGE was established to recognize and promote fundamental and innovative chemical methods that accomplish pollution prevention through source reduction and that have broad applicability in industry.
The Vermont Governor's Awards for Environmental Excellence and Pollution Prevention were conceived of and established in 1993 to honor Vermont individuals, organizations, institutions, public agencies, businesses, and industry using innovative approaches that reduce or eliminate the generation of pollutants and wastes at the source

Regional
The program recognizes individuals, organizations, and businesses that have demonstrated exceptional leadership and made notable contributions in conserving California’s precious resources, protecting and enhancing our environment, and building public-private partnerships.
Established to recognize businesses, institutions, individuals, and civic organizations who have participated in energy conservation, transportation, pollution prevention or recycling related activities or projects that promote natural resource conservation or environmental awareness.
The award recognizes facilities who demonstrate excellence in operation, maintenance, innovative treatment, waste reduction and pollution prevention, conservation, recycling and other special achievements.
These annual awards are presented to businesses and organizations in Illinois that have helped the environment and the economy of Illinois by successfully reducing the generation of gaseous, liquid, and solid waste. Any Illinois public or private business or organization is eligible to apply for an award.
This program seeks to recognize entities (businesses, governmental units, schools and other organizations) who act proactively, make decisions and engage in activities that enable them to reduce their environmental impacts. The categories include Energy/Renewable Resources, Greening the Government, Land Use, Outreach or Education, Pollution Prevention/Source Reduction, and Recycling/Reuse.
The Governor's Awards honor superior environmental achievement by Minnesota's businesses, nonprofits, government, and institutions. The three categories for the award are Business/Nonprofit, Government institutions, and Partnerships.
This award recognizes public and private organizations that demonstrate a superior commitment to waste and pollution prevention, source reduction and resource conservation. Accomplishments must go beyond traditional waste management practices, focusing instead on preventing, reducing and reusing through innovative and creative strategies.

Sustainability
This is EPA Region 10’s method of acknowledging good work by individuals and groups of federal agencies outside of EPA who are showing leadership by going above and beyond the call of duty in working to improve the environment and protecting our natural resources.
The Millennium Awards were established in 1996. The Awards were designed to honor individuals and organizations who recognize the important connection between humankind and nature, to celebrate their success and inspire others to make such exceptional behavior the norm.
The Sustainable Design Awards were established in 1999 to recognize specific advancements in industry, building, media, organizations, and public policy.

With this award EPA seeks to recognize and support public entities (from cities to state governments and the many types of public entities in-between) that promote and achieve smart growth, while at the same time bringing about direct and indirect environmental benefits.
P3 is the next step beyond P2 (pollution prevention) and focuses on the three components of sustainability: People, Prosperity and the Planet. This national student design competition will enable college students to research, develop and design sustainable solutions to environmental challenges.
This award honor the groups that develop significant brownfields sites across the country. The awards categories are: regional awards, community impact, special innovations, people's choice, and international.

The awards recognize municipalities and industries, including Tribal Nations and U.S. military commands for demonstrating outstanding technological achievements or an innovative process, method or device in their waste treatment and pollution abatement programs.
Each year the U.S. Department of Energy, in conjunction with the Federal Interagency Energy Policy Committee ("656" Committee), sponsors the Federal Energy and Water Management Awards. These awards honor individuals and organizations making significant contributions to the efficient use of energy and water resources in the Federal government.Awards recognize outstanding achievements in the following areas:
