Comprehensive Health and Dental Benefits

Officers: Entitled to receive care at any Uniformed Service Military Treatment Facility (MTF) and other resources in accordance with Uniformed Service policies and procedures.
Family Members: Entitled to receive medical care under TRICARE, the Department of Defense triple-option health plan options TRICARE PRIME, EXTRA, or STANDARD and dental care with voluntary enrollment in TRICARE Dental Program (TDP).
Life Insurance
Commissioned Corps Officers (and if applicable, their spouse) have the option of Service Members' Group Life Insurance (SGLI), a group term life insurance policy. SGLI is available in $10,000 increments up to the maximum of $250,000. Upon separation or retirement SGLI insureds have two options available to them. They can convert their full-time SGLI coverage to term insurance under the Veterans' Group Life Insurance program or to an insurance policy with one of the participating commercial insurance companies. Loan Repayment Program (LRP)
Commissioned Corps, Civil Service and Tribal hire dentists may receive awards to be used toward repayment of student loans. Click here to go to our comprehensive section on Loan Repayment.

Retirement
An attractive retirement system offers Commissioned Corps officers a real reason stay within this personnel system for an entire career.
Non-Contributory Retirement: Commissioned Corps retirement pay is based upon a 30-year career. Officers are vested in the retirement system after 20 years of active-duty, at which time he or she may retire with an annuity and benefits. Retirement is mandatory after 30 years, at which time the officer will receive 75% of base pay.
Contributory Retirement: The Thrift Savings Program (TSP) allows employees to make additional pre-tax contributions to their retirement plan. The TSP offers multiple investment options similar to private sector 401(k) plans.
