- National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) is a national resource for climate information. It maintains a large active archive of weather data. NCDC produces numerous climate publications and responds to data requests from all over the world. It operates the World Data Center for Meteorology which is co-located at NCDC in Asheville, North Carolina, and the World Data Center for Paleo-climatology which is located in Boulder, Colorado.
- Climate Prediction Center (CPC) produces official climate forecasts, outlooks and conducts regular assessments and monitors climate variability. Click here to go to the Outlooks and Forecasts section.
- Climate Diagnostic Center (CDC) conducts research to improve climate forecasts. They integrate new research findings to develop new prototype forecast systems.
- Climate Services Division (CSD) at NWS headquarters provides the strategic vision for climate services at NWS and oversees the NWS climate services program.
- Office of Global Programs (OGP) leads NOAA's Climate and Global Change Program. It assists by sponsoring focused scientific research aimed at understanding climate variability and its predictability.
- Environmental Modeling Center (EMC) is part of the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP). It works to improve numerical weather, marine and climate predictions through a broad program of research in data assimilation and modeling.
- Regional Integrated Sciences and Assessments (RISA) program supports research and prototype development to address complex climate sensitive issues appropriate for decision-makers and policy planners at a regional level. Traditionally their research has focused on the fisheries, water, wildfire, and agriculture sectors. In recent years, however, the program has begun to support research in climate-sensitive public health issues and coastal restoration.
- Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (GFDL) is a center for climate change modeling. It works closely with other government supported centers to improve the parameterization of climate in General Circulation Models (GCMs). GFDL is working to extend climate prediction from months to decades or longer.
- National Drought Mitigation Center (NDMC) provides support to reduce societal vulnerability to drought. They also provide variety of resources for planning, monitoring and mitigating droughts.
- National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) provides many options for climate information. For example, for more information on climate and radiation click here. For more broad interests in everything climate research related and global climate matters click here.
- The Environmental Protection Agency provides impact information on global warming for each state.
- World Meteorological Organization provides information on a global scale about many aspects of climate. If you want learn, for example, more on climate change, go to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change to read their findings.
