Researchers use a variety of measures to quantify the degree of overcrowding in housing. This study explores traditional and alternative measures of overcrowding and examines how overcrowding affects different segments of the population. The overcrowding measures of Persons-Per-Room, Persons-Per-Bedroom, Unit Square Footage-Per-Person, and Persons-Per-Room by Unit Square Footage-Per-Person were analyzed and contrasted with the use of American Housing Survey national data from 1985 and 2005.
