Description: | This "first-of-its-kind" event will bring together a diverse group of public and private-sector stakeholders to discuss how motor carrier safety, operational efficiency, and freight mobility could be improved through the application of interoperable technology and information sharing between commercial vehicles, roadside systems, and freight facilities. The 2008 Smart Roadside Workshop will be an opportunity for stakeholders to not only learn more about the Smart Roadside Initiative but to help shape the future of this emerging Federal program. Stakeholders will participate in substantive, interactive discussions about potential new applications of Intelligent Transportation Systems to significantly improve safety, security, and mobility throughout the nation’s freight transportation system. A demonstration of Florida’s roadside commercial vehicle enforcement systems, including virtual weigh station technology, as well as a site visit to the Port of Jacksonville’s Weight Information System also will be featured. Workshop attendance is limited to 120 participants. For registration information, please contact Julie.Lane@dot.gov |
