ACTION: Notice of partially closed meeting. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- SUMMARY: This notice sets forth the schedule and proposed agenda of a forthcoming quarterly meeting of the National Education Research Policy and Priorities Board. Notice of this meeting is required under section 10(a)(2) of the Federal Advisory Committee Act. This document is intended to notify the general public of their opportunity to attend the open portions of the meeting. DATE: January 20-21, 2000. SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: The National Educational Research Policy and Priorities Board is authorized by section 921 of the Educational Research, Development, Dissemination, and Improvement Act of 1994. The Board works collaboratively with the Assistant Secretary for the Office of Educational Research and Improvement (OERI) to forge a national consensus with respect to a long-term agenda for educational research, development, and dissemination, and to provide advice and assistance to the Assistant Secretary in administering the duties of the Office. On January 20 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Board will conduct outstanding business in open session and hear reports on the interim evaluation of the regional educational laboratories and discuss recommendations regarding future lab evaluations. The Board will also discuss progress on its commissioned study on the application of standards for the selection of exemplary and promising programs. The meeting will be closed to the public [[Page 1361]] from approximately 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. under the authority of section 10(d) of the Federal Advisory Committee Act (Pub. L. 92-463; 5 U.S.C. Appendix I) and under exemption 9(B) of Section 552b of Title 5 U.S.C. The Board will discuss plans for future requests for proposals for OERI's national educational research and development centers and other information the premature disclosure of which would be likely to significantly frustrate implementation of a proposed agency action. On January 21 the Board will hear reports from the Assistant Secretary for OERI and from the chair and executive director. The Program Committee will report on plans for a conference on middle schools, tentatively scheduled for July 2000. A final agenda will be available from the Board office on January 12, and will be posted on the Board's web site, http://www.ed.gov/offices/OERI/NERPPB/. A summary of the activities at the closed session and related matters which are informative to the public consistent with the policy of Title 5 U.S.C. 552b will be available to the public within 14 days of the meeting.
