Research Project:
DEVELOPMENT AND ASSESSMENT OF RISK MANAGEMENT TOOLS FOR AGRONOMIC CROP PRODUCTION
Location: Agricultural Land and Watershed Management Research
Project Number: 3625-21610-001-42
Project Type:
Reimbursable
Start Date: Mar 17, 2008
End Date: Dec 31, 2008
Objective:
1. Evaluate spatial analysis tool for agronomic crop production risk that includes weeds, insects, or diseases.
2. Incorporate secondary biological stresses into a field scale decision support tool for use by producers and consultants.
3. Complete a literature review to define the factors that affect the prevalence of biological stressors in corn and soybean production.
4. Conduct field survey experiments in cooperation with crop consultants to refine the spatial analysis evaluate the decision support tool for agronomic crops.
5. Evaluate the sensitivity of biological response factors in field scale crop-microclimate models as components of crop yield response in combination with precipitation and temperature variation.
Approach:
Evaluate spatial tool for field level decisions that includes biological stresses, evaluate response of producers and consultants in use of biological stresses as part of the decision support tool, literature review and analysis for driving variables affecting dominant weed, insect, and disease populations in agronomic crop production, field survey experiments to evaluate spatial patterns of biological stresses in combination with other management practices, e.g., manure, conservation tillage, reduced N rates. Incorporation of biological stresses into field scale risk assessment models with variable precipitation and temperature scenarios.
