Lymphoma SPOREs
American Cancer Society estimates 66,670 new case of lymphoma in the year 2006. Of these, 58,870 are expected to be non-Hodgkin's lymphomas and 7,800 cases of Hodgkin's disease. Along this estimates, 18,840 people will die of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and 1,490 of Hodgkin's disease in the year 2006. Since the year 1970, the incidence of lymphomas nearly doubled. A stabilization of this trend in the years 1992-98 was observed (except in black females) and there was a decline of Hodgkin's disease incidence since late 1980's. Despite these favorable trends, lymphomas remain a serious medical problem affecting thousands of individuals. The SPORE program introduced Lymphoma SPOREs in the year 2001. As a result, two Lymphoma SPOREs were funded in the year 2002 and an additional one in 2004.
