Mission
The IHS Head Start Program mission is to promote health activities that are proven to improve health outcomes for the EHS and HS child, family, staff and community by reducing the risks of chronic disease. The health priorities will have a positive effect on decreasing health disparities and strengthening local capacity and health provider outreach.

Program Goals
The IHS Head Start Program goals are:

  • To support the Head Start Bureau and the health objectives and performance standard requirements
  • To assist grantees in the development of health programs for children, family, staff and community
  • To develop programs that promote healthy lifestyle activities
  • To assist Head Start grantees in developing local and community partnerships.
