Downloading, Installing, and Running GNOME
Downloading GNOME
The current version of GNOME is 1.3.0, and was webposted on 8/28/08. Whenever you download a new version of GNOME for Windows, also download new copies of all the Location Files you are using.
- Download GNOME:
To download GNOME, click either the GNOME for Windows or GNOME for Macintosh link in the Downloading GNOME section at right.
- Download User's Manual and Location Files:
Download the User's Guide directly from this page using the link titled GNOME User Manual at right, then use the GNOME Location Files and Associated Resources link to visit our Location File library where you can obtain Location Files to use in GNOME to model spill scenarios set in particular areas, such as Prince William Sound, Alaska, and Long Island Sound, New York.
- Download Other Optional Files:
- If you don't already have it, you'll need to install Quicktime on your Windows PC in order to create GNOME movies; Macintosh users also will need QuickTime to view their movies. Use the Apple Computer's QuickTime Player link at right to visit Apple's site and download the software.
- ArcView Extension File Gnome.avx is an ArcView extension file you can use to view your GNOME trajectories in ArcView. Visit the GNOME ArcView Extension page via the link at right.
- ArcMap Trajectory Import Tool Gnome.dll is a tool you can use to import GNOME "splots" or NOAA trajectory products into ArcMap 9.x. You can get it from the GNOME Trajectory Import Tool page linked at right.
Installing GNOME
On a Windows PC
In Windows Explorer, double-click the "GnomeSetup.exe" file icon, then follow the directions you'll see on your screen.
On a Macintosh
GNOME has been compressed so that you can download it quickly. Some browsers are configured to automatically uncompact compressed files. If yours is, look for a folder called "GNOME 1.3.0" on your desktop.
If your browser doesn't do that automatically, you can use StuffIt Expander or WinZip. (Use the links at right to visit the sites and download the software.) Once you have uncompacted GNOME, look for a folder called "GNOME 1.3.0" on your desktop.
Running GNOME
In Windows
To start GNOME, from the Start menu, under Programs, choose "GNOME".
On a Macintosh
Open the "GNOME 1.3.0" folder, and then double-click the "GNOME" program icon to start GNOME.
