News From the GNOME Wizard

Greetings from the GNOME Development Team! We are releasing GNOME 1.3.0, with several new features and corrections:

  • GNOME's Help topics were updated, correcting many outdated reference links. (If you work with a particular Location File, you should download the latest version in order to have the updated Help topics.)
  • An optional Wind Vector now displays on the Map Window in both Standard and Diagnostic Modes. This can be turned off or moved.
  • GIS Output Mode has been removed from GNOME. Standard Mode has been modified to allow you to save splots for GIS or GNOME Analyst, save the Map, and save the Wind.
  • The format for the trajectory printouts was modified.
  • A bug was corrected in the QuickTime movies. The latest QuickTime didn't display Gnome movies properly in both the Windows and Mac versions.
  • A printing bug in the Windows version was corrected. Previously, GNOME would crash after printing if the window title was too long.
  • The spill years available to use were extended to 2015 from the previous 2010.
  • The expiration date of the Boston and vicinity Location File was changed from 2010 to 2025.

Changes to Diagnostic Mode only:

  • The GNOME world was extended from -180 - 180 degrees longitude to -360 - 360 degrees longitude.
  • We added a new output option to allow users who load their own currents into GNOME to save the grid information (topology, DAG tree, etc.) for later use.
  • To help Diagnostic Mode users load their own data into GNOME, we provided links to Web sites that offer GNOME-compatible data. See the GNOME Diagnostic Mode FAQ for more information.

Note:  At this time, the Help topics include the most up-to-date information to help you find data related to your Location File. Updates to the User's Guides and Example Problems will follow shortly.

Upcoming Location Files

The next Location File scheduled for release will be the Detroit River.
