Chairman Johnson Attends Swearing In Ceremony of David G. Nason as Assistant Treasury Secretary for Financial Institutions

June 29, 2007, Alexandria, VA- National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) Chairman JoAnn Johnson was on hand yesterday at the U.S. Department of Treasury as Secretary Henry M. Paulson, Jr. administered the oath of office to David G. Nason, while swearing him in as Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions.

The Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions coordinates the Department's efforts regarding financial institutions legislation and regulation, legislation affecting Federal agencies that regulate or insure financial institutions, and securities markets legislation and regulation. The Assistant Secretary coordinates the Department's efforts on financial education policy and ensuring the resiliency of the financial services sector in the wake of a terrorist attack.

Previously, Mr. Nason served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions Policy at the Department of the Treasury. Prior to this, he served as Counsel to a Commissioner of the Securities and Exchange Commission. Earlier in his career, he served as an attorney at Covington & Burling. Prior to that, he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Marvin J. Garbis of the United States District Court for the District of Maryland. Mr. Nason received his bachelor's degree and JD from American University.

The National Credit Union Administration is the independent federal agency that regulates, charters and supervises federal credit unions. NCUA, with the backing of the full faith and credit of the U.S. government, also operates and manages the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF), insuring the deposits of over 85 million account holders in all federal credit unions and the majority of state-chartered credit unions.
