On July 13, 2000, Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act (29 U.S.C. 794D), as amended, was written into law. Section 508 applies to the Federal government when developing, procuring, maintaining, or using electronic information technology. Under Section 508, Federal departments and agencies shall ensure, unless an undue burden would be imposed on the department or agency, that the electronic and information technology allows access to information and data, regardless of the type of medium of technology, subject to the provisions as outlined in Section 508. The Bureau of Land Management is committed to and is making every possible effort to ensure that all electronic and information technology developed, procured, maintained, or used by the Bureau is accessible to people with disabilities, including both employees and the customers we serve.
