Adaptation Products
Draft Charter for State Climate Change Council of the National Water Program
A key goal of the National Water Program Strategy: Response to Climate Change is to engage States, Tribes, and others in addressing the complex issues posed for water quality program managers by a changing climate. In an effort to strengthen cooperation amongst these groups, a State Climate Council of the EPA National Water Program will be formed. EPA Office of Water joined with the EPA Office of Research and Development to convene EPA's First National Expert and Stakeholder Workshop on Water Infrastructure Sustainability and Adaptation to Climate Change, January 6-7, 2009. The workshop reflects commitments to Key Action #28 (Sustainable Infrastructure Initiative), Key Action 29 (Sustainability Handbook with Climate Impacts), as well as Key Action #35 (Climate Research in ORD Water Related Research Plans). The Office of Water and The Office of Air and Radiation had signed a memorandum of Understanding in November 2008 to support coordination of related to improving energy efficiency at wastewater and drinking water treatment plants (see key action #1).

Interagency Coordination
Under key action #44 in the Strategy, the EPA Office of Water is working with other federal agencies to coordinate work related to climate change and water. Signed on August 22, 2008, this joint memorandum describes the cooperative efforts of five federal agencies working on climate change and water issues.
