Hood Participates In Current Issues In Credit Union (CliCU) Podcast

November 25, 2008, Alexandria, VA - National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) Vice Chairman Rodney E. Hood participated in the CliCU monthly podcast about credit union hot topics and breaking legal news.  Hosted by attorneys involved in the credit union movement, the podcast is designed for credit union officers, directors, employees, volunteers and anybody interested in the credit union movement.  During today’s podcast, Mr. Hood addressed various issues facing the credit union industry, such as: succession planning, preserving confidence in America’s credit union system, Credit Union Homeowner Affordability Program (CU HARP) draft proposal, the future of credit union compliance, etc.

Touching on his Blueprint 2020 Initiative, Vice Chairman Hood stressed the importance of recruiting, training and retaining individuals for careers in the credit union industry.  “In order for the credit union industry to be sustainable and thrive, particularly during the current climate of economic unrest, it is crucial for industry leaders to begin training the leaders of tomorrow.  The interest is out there and we have the power to develop and advance the future of the credit union industry,” said Hood.

The Vice Chairman went on to note strategic steps NCUA is taking to preserve confidence in America’s credit union system:

Advertising campaign on Federal Insurance
Credit Union Inclusion in Emergency Economic Stabilization Act
Attention to proactive risk management through a new Risk Focused Exam

Recognizing that credit unions are not immune to the uncertainty in the financial arena, Hood further discussed the CU HARP draft proposal put forth by NCUA to deal with the troubled assets within the credit union industry.  For detailed facts about this proposal, please visit the NCUA website at www.ncua.gov.

In closing, Hood reiterated the importance of having faith and confidence in the credit union industry.  “We need everyone to work toward a common goal of creating a safe and secure financial industry for the entire Nation.  The challenges ahead are many, but so too are the opportunities for you to demonstrate the credit union philosophy of People Helping People.”
