Fryzel Visits Acceso FCU

October 24, 2008, Alexandria, Va. – National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) Chairman Michael E. Fryzel visited Acceso Federal Credit Union in Washington, DC Wednesday,  in conjunction with Hispanic Heritage Month. Acceso FCU is a joint project between, IDB-IIC Federal Credit Union, District Government Employees FCU, and OAS Staff Federal Credit union designed to improve access to credit union service in a primarily Hispanic part of Washington DC.

“Acceso is a working example of how credit unions can and do make a difference in their communities.  The branch has not only effectively targeted the needs of its Hispanic membership through bilingual outreach and wire transfer services tailored to that community, but it is also an important physical presence in an area badly in need of traditional financial service providers. This is an important and successful endeavor that I hope will be duplicated across the Nation.”

The National Credit Union Administration is the independent federal agency that regulates charters and supervises federal credit unions. NCUA, with the backing of the full faith and credit of the U.S. government, also operates and manages the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund, insuring the deposits of nearly 89 million account holders in all federal credit unions and the majority of state-chartered credit unions.
