Diabetes Prevention Programs updated June 2008

In 2004, Congress directed the Indian Health Service to launch the Special Diabetes Program for Indians Diabetes Prevention Demonstration Project and Healthy Heart Demonstration Project.
Thirty-six programs are focusing on diabetes prevention in American Indian and Alaska Native adults with pre-diabetes.
