Office of Tribal Programs (OTP)

Welcome

The Office of Tribal Programs (OTP) is located in the Office of the Director, Indian Health Service (IHS), Department of Health and Human Services, Rockville Maryland. OTP is responsible for a wide range of agency functions that are critical to the IHS' relationships with tribal leaders, organizations, and other American Indian and Alaska Native groups. OTP is the Agency's principal liaison with Indian organizations and more than 562 federally recognized tribes. OTP is a national program providing information, technical assistance, and policy coordination in support of Indian self-determination. OTP is the primary focal point for Title I, Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act (ISDEAA) activities and implementation and direct service tribes.

Direct Service Tribes Sixth Annual National Meeting ~ August 18 - 20, 2009, Oklahoma City, OK

The national meeting will address health issues and concerns impacting the tribes who receive their health care directly from the federally operated system of the Indian Health Service.

Indian Health Service/Tribal Contract Support Costs Workgroup Meeting ~ June 10 - 11, 2009, Phoenix, AZ

Tthe Indian Health Service (IHS)/Tribal Contract Support Cost (CSC) Workgroup will convene on Wednesday and Thursday, June 10-11, 200, in Phoenix, Arizona. The Workgroup meeting will focus on IHS CSC policy and resource allocation issues. At a minimum, the following issues will be discussed:

  • IHS CSC Policy - Allocation methodologies associated with new or expanded awards.

  • Allocation of FY 2009 and 2010 CSC appropriation.

  • Impact of National Business Center Indirect Cost Rate negotiation changes.

  • CSC need associated with American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds.

  • Development of a report on CSC over the past 10 years.

  • Other issues associated with IHS CSC policy or issues raised by Tribal participants.

    Hotel Reservation: A block of rooms has been reserved at the Sheraton Crescent Hotel. Each individual guest must make their own reservations before the Cut-off date of May 22, 2009 through StarGroups reservation website at http://www.starwoodmeeting.com/book/IHSTribalContract or by calling the hotel’s central reservation at 1-800-325-3535. To ensure that you receive the group rate you need to identify yourself as participating in the IHS Contract Support Costs Workgroup Meeting. The group rate is $86.00 (single & double occupancy) plus 12.27% taxes guest room per night. Any reservation requests received after the cut-off date will be subject to standard guestroom rates and room type availability.

    Tribal Management Grant Program ~ 2009 Training Opportunities for FY 2010 cycle announced!

    The Office of Tribal Programs administers the Tribal Management Grants (TMG) Program which was designed to assist Tribes and Tribal organizations develop and improve their management capability.

    Each year the TMG program offers training to potential applicants to provide an overview of the program announcement, review program requirements and discuss project ideas and proposals. The dates and cities locations have been confirmed, but the hotel sites for these sessions are being negotiated; the trainings will take place in April, May and June in Oklahoma City, Sioux Falls, Seattle and Albuquerque.
