WASHINGTON, DC—House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn today responded to Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and a letter from the Office of Management and Budget to Graham about the so-called “Clyburn workaround amendment,” Section 1607 in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
"No matter the number of political machinations our state leaders undertake, the end result is much-needed aid is being denied the children of South Carolina. If the governor doesn't act by Friday to accept the State Stabilization funds, our state stands to lose more than two-thirds of the education funding allocated for South Carolina in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. I want to hear the governor explain to the very school children, whom he claims will be paying for this legislation, why he thinks they don’t deserve the benefit of funding that will prepare them to make those payments.”
