Law Journals Online

There are several online resources useful for locating full-text law journals. Information is provided below:

Westlaw

A sample of full-text titles available on Westlaw includes:

    (vol. 1)
  • Hastings Constitutional Law Quarterly HSTCLQ; selected coverage from 1983 (vol. 10) and full coverage from 1993 (vol. 20, no. 3)

To see a listing of all law journals available on Westlaw, use the Westlaw Database Directory <http://directory.westlaw.com/>. Click on the file folder icon to the left of Law Reviews, Bar Journals & Legal Periodicals, and then click on the file folder icon to the left of Law Reviews & Bar Journals in JLR & TP-ALL (contains the entire JLR and LAWPRAC databases and also selected texts). From there, click on the file folder icon to the left of “Databases beginning with” A,B,C, etc. Use the scope link (green circle with an “i” in the middle) to the left of the database name to get further information regarding a specific database. Another option is to use the database Journals & Law Reviews Combined JLR (which combines many but not the entire collection of law journals available on Westlaw). Click on the scope link to the left to see a full description, including a list of tiles included.

HeinOnline

While Westlaw tends to be better for more current editions, HeinOnline provides more complete access to older materials through its Law Journal Library. Many are available to within the last one or two years. A few of the titles* available include:

  • Industrial and Labor Relations Review - Vols. 1-58 (1947-2005)
  • Labor Lawyer (ABA) - Vols. 1-20 (1985-2005)
  • Monthly Labor Review- Vols. 103-127 (1980-2004)
  • University of Pennsylvania Journal of Labor and Employment Law - Vols. 1-7 (1998-2005)

*All of the above titles are also available through Westlaw, but with different dates of coverage.

See the past tip “HeinOnline” for more information about this resource.

FindLaw

The webpage “Academic Law Reviews and Journals” <http://stu.findlaw.com/journals/> located on the FindLaw website <http://stu.findlaw.com/> is a resource you can use to locate law journals by topic. Click on a subject area, such as Labor and Employment Law <http://stu.findlaw.com/journals/labor.html>, to be directed to a list of and links to law journals on a particular topic. Links to the full-text are provided in some cases.

The Wirtz Labor Library also has print copies of many law journals in its collection, though most are not up-to-date. For a list of titles and dates available, use the Law Journals page, a PDF document accessible from the Wirtz Labor Law Library’s homepage in the gold “Find It” box.

Note: Because Westlaw and HeinOnline are fee-based subscription resources, not all DOL employees have access. Those who have Westlaw user IDs and passwords may not be able to view all law journals due to subscription limitations. Please contact the Wirtz Labor Law Library for assistance.
