Mary Ruwwe, PBS Regional Commissioner

Mary Ruwwe serves as the Regional Commissioner in the Heartland Region's Public Buildings Service (PBS). She leads a workforce of more than 350 employees responsible for providing superior workplaces for the federal workforce.

PBS in the Heartland encompasses more than 22 million square feet of real estate in Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska and Kansas. Some of the Heartland's largest customers include federal agencies such as the Judiciary, IRS, SSA, EPA and the National Archives.

Managing a wide range of facilities from federally-owned courthouses to leased cave space, the Heartland Region takes pride in keeping more than three million square feet of its inventory certified via the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Green Building Rating System of the U.S. Green Building Council (a nongovernment website).

Ruwwe began her career in GSA's intern program and has been with the Heartland Region for more than 20 years. She has held increasingly complex and responsible leadership positions in facilities management and workforce development in the Kansas City regional office. She has two bachelor's of science degrees - business administration and secondary education - from Peru State College in Peru, Neb.; and she holds a master's in business administration from Webster University in Kansas City, Mo. Ruwwe has also earned an Facilities Management Administrator's designation from the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA).
