Sharon Banks - Acting Regional Administrator

Sharon Banks, Deputy ARA GSA NCR

Sharon Banks was named as the Acting Regional Administrator of GSA’s National Capital Region (NCR) on January 16, 2009. She oversees GSA’s programs and services delivered in Washington, DC,  and the nearby metro areas of Maryland and Virginia.

Previously, Ms. Banks served as the Deputy Regional Administrator, and was responsible for directing the activities of the region's staff offices while assisting with the planning and directing of all other regional activities. Before that, she was the Director of the Metropolitan Service Center for NCR’s Public Buildings Service. Her responsibilities included leading a multi-disciplinary organization with oversight for tailoring solutions that meet federal agencies' unique requirements. She led a team of more than 200 employees responsible for servicing more than 25 customer agencies, including four of the largest customers: the Department of Defense, Department of Health and Human Services and all of its components, the Department of Labor, and the Social Security Administration.

Ms. Banks has also served NCR as the Acting Deputy Director, and as the Acting Director of the Human Resources Division. During her GSA career, she has also served as a supervisor in the Human Resources Division; as Special Assistant to the Deputy and Associate Regional Administrators; and as Special Assistant to the Assistant Regional Administrator for PBS.

Ms. Banks has received numerous awards for her outstanding accomplishments earned during 34 years of federal government service. She is a 2007 graduate of the Federal Executive Institute’s Leadership for Democratic Society, a certified Project Manager, a 2002 graduate of the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, and a 1992 graduate of the Executive Potential Program.
