The Detroit Free Press won its ninth Pulitzer
Prize for its coverage of the text message scandal that led to the resignation
and jailing of former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick. The Free Press won
in the "Local Reporting" category. Details here. Also, Mike Thompson of The Detroit Free Press was nominated
as a finalist in the Pulitzer editorial cartooning category. Earlier, the
Free Press won several other national awards for the Kilpatrick coverage,
including a 2008 Investigative Reporters and Editors (IRE) award and a 2008
Worth Bingham Prize for Investigative Journalism. |
