U.S. Labor Department’s Senior Community Service Employment Program grantees to receive more than $118 million under Recovery Act

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Labor has issued policy guidance to grantees of the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) for the implementation of an additional $118,800,000 under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Recovery Act). This critical investment is designed to increase services and training for unemployed, low-income seniors, and to invigorate and advance prosperity in the communities where they live.

SCSEP is a community service and work-based training program for older workers with poor employment prospects. Recovery Act funding will expand the number of SCSEP participants assigned to community service work, particularly in high-growth job sectors such as health care, child care, education, green jobs, energy efficiency and environmental services. The funding will be distributed among the 50 states, six territories and outlying areas, and to national organizations that currently provide SCSEP services. Those community organizations receiving Recovery Act funding will be able to expand services.

For more information on SCSEP, visit www.doleta.gov/seniors or call the department's toll-free helpline at 877-872-5627 and TTY 877-889-5627.

More information on the Department of Labor's implementation of the Recovery Act can be found at www.doleta.gov and www.dol.gov/Recovery. Questions regarding Recovery Act funding can be emailed to eta.economicrecovery@dol.gov.
