SEAC Wins Keeper of the Light Award

The Keeper of the Light Award is the highest honor bestowed by the National Park Services Division of Education and Interpretation in the Southeast Region.

Quote from the SERO Citation memo: For nearly two decades, through its Public Interpretation Initiative and other activities, the Center has made significant, long-term contributions to public education, interpretation, and outreach. These contributions have made the Center a regional, national, and international leader in the archeology education, interpretation, and outreach fields. A distinguishing feature of the Center's Public Interpretation Initiative is that it is an unfunded collateral commitment of the staff. The programs have been innovative and diverse and continue to reflect new attitudes, greater interaction, stronger relationships and renewed obligations. The Center's public education activities have substantially aided the National Park Service in accomplishing its education/preservation mission as well as the public education and awareness goals set by the U.S. Department of the Interiors National Strategy for Federal Archeology.
