Federal Advisory Committee Act Training

Audience for this Course: The course is intended for federal Committee Management Officers (CMO) and their staff, Designated Federal Officers (DFO), FACA and ethics legal staff, FACA support staff, and managers and decision makers involved in advisory committee management and/or operations.  Agency contractor staff directly involved in FACA management or operations may also be nominated by their host agency.  The course is taught by an interagency team of FACA subject matter experts.  The course is administered by the GSA Committee Management Secretariat, and there are five classes each fiscal year.

Cost and Duration: $450 course fee.  Each training class is two full days, and starts at 8:30 a.m. sharp daily, and ends at 4:00 p.m. Eastern time.  There is an hour and a quarter for lunch, and there are morning and afternoon breaks.  Typical class size is 50-55 students.

June 24-25, 2009 (Class is closed to new registrations)
August 26-27, 2009 (Class is currently open)

FY2010 Class dates will be announced in late FY2009.

Please note:  Only the August 26-27, 2009 training class is currently open to new registrations.  Most classes fill-up within 60-75 days of the class date.  Please register early as we do not maintain a wait list for any class.

Registration: Agencies may register multiple participants for the FACA course. If registering more than one participant, please designate a contact person.  To register for any of the open FY2009 classes, or to obtain further information, including the class agenda, please contact the Committee Management Secretariat Training Coordinator, Ms. Tabitha Dove at tabitha.dove@gsa.gov.  

GSA accepts two forms of payment from federal agencies for this course -- the Government IMPAC credit card or a training form/purchase order.  You may fax a copy of your agency's completed training request to the GSA Committee Management Secretariat, to the attention of Ms. Dove, at (202) 273-3559.  You may also email the information (PDF or Word format) to Ms. Dove.  Please be sure to include the student's full name, job title, agency/component name, email address and work phone number in all registrations.  Registration is not confirmed until GSA receives payment documentation. Students may register for only one class. We no longer maintain a wait-list for any classes.

Student's Homework Assignment:  Students planning to take this course are encouraged to visit the Secretariat's Advice and Guidance website to find links to various documents and background materials that will aid in the preparation and make the class that much more relevant.  Students should also visit the Secretariat's Legislation and Regulation website and familiarize themselves with the FACA statute and the FACA Final Rule.

Registration Deadline: Nominations are due at least two weeks before the first day of class to allow time to process your application.  Agencies will be billed for accepted nominees unless cancellation is received one week before the first day of class.  Substitutions for paid registrants are accepted up until the date of the class.  For information on arrangements for students needing special accommodation, please contact Ms. Dove with details at least three weeks prior to the class date.
