Planning a field trip to the Obed Wild and Scenic River might not be as hard as it sounds. The first thing that you as a teacher need to know is that with the proper amount of planning, your field trip can turn out to be a most welcomed learning experience for your students.
The first thing that you need to do is figure out how many students you want to take. Once you get that number, you then need to pick a date. By contacting the park at 423-346-6294, we can reserve a date and a time for your class. When you call, we will ask you the following questions:
1) Your school name and its address
2) The date and time of your field trip
3) The program subject matter that you are interested in (we'll give you examples over the phone)
4) The grade/age of your students
5) The number of students and chaperones
6) The contact person or teacher
Then next steps are to prepare your permission slips and obtain volunteers to help chaperone the students. You will also want to arrange transportation for your students. The Obed does not provide transportation to any part of the river or to and from the school. Depending upon the amount of students that you are bringing, a picnic lunch at Nemo might be just the thing. Or you may want to visit the park during the morning or afternoon hours, but not both. All of these options can be discussed by our staff, all of whom are most willing to make your class trip a pleasurable experience for everyone involved.
