BLM Advisory Council to Meet in Redding

Items concerning recreation on public lands will highlight the agenda, when the Bureau of Land Management's Northwest California Resource Advisory Council convenes for a meeting and field tour, Thursday and Friday, Dec. 7 and 8, in Redding.

The Thursday meeting, open to the public, gets underway at 10 a.m. in the Conference Room of the BLM Redding Field Office, 355 Hemsted Dr.

Agenda items include discussion of the council's role in developing business plans for recreation sites, a review of new North Coast wilderness designations, management of the Stornetta Public Lands on the Mendocino Coast, and wildfire recovery efforts. The council also will hear reports from the BLM's northwest California field managers.

Time for public comments has been reserved for 1 p.m. Anyone is welcome to address the council. A time limit could be established to accommodate all speakers.
On Friday, the council members convene at 8 a.m. at the Redding Field Office and depart immediately for a tour to upland areas in the Sacramento River Bend Area of Critical Environmental Concern near Red Bluff. Members of the public are welcome. They must provide their own transportation and lunch.

The 12-member advisory council, one of 24 such councils in the western states, works closely with BLM managers from Arcata, Redding and Ukiah, advising on natural resources and public lands issues. The members represent a broad range of interest areas including recreation, timber management, environmental groups, off-highway vehicle users, local government and the public at large.

For more information on the meeting, contact BLM Public Affairs Officer Jeff Fontana at (530) 252-5332.
