2008 Annual Report
1a.Objectives (from AD-416)
This cooperative agreement establishes responsibilities and facilitates cooperation between the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) and HydroQual, Inc. to collaborate in planning research, data collection, and data analyses/computer modeling as a tool to predict the efficacy of copper sulfate on Ichthyophthiriasis in fish.
1b.Approach (from AD-416)
Signatories to this agreement will collaborate in joint efforts to develop a
predictive model for determining the efficacy of copper sulfate on
Ichthyophthiriasis in fish. ARS and HydroQual, Inc. will develop and exchange
data to be used in development of the model.
3.Progress Report
This project is intended to develop a better treatment rate for copper sulfate using a new computer model. Studies have been initiated to determine the acute toxicity of copper sulfate to Ichthyophthirius multifiliis (Ich) theronts. Of the 13 different reconstituted waters required for these assays, 5 have been completed to determine the median lethal concentration (LC50) in time increments up to 4 hours. Further trials are ongoing; these will complete the initial phase of this project. The ADODR is in regular contact with cooperator via email, phone, and face-to-face contacts. (NP 106, Component 4b)
