D.C. Parole Initiative 37 19 $1,648

The request includes 37 positions, 19 workyears, and $1,648,000 for the Parole Commission to continue the responsibility of making parole decisions for District of Columbia Code prisoners. This increase is needed to help reduce backlogs and expedite the D.C. caseload, and address problems related to inadequate files and difficulties in obtaining information.

The D.C. Revitalization Act gave the U.S Parole Commission all of the remaining authority of the D.C. Board of Parole on August 5, 2000. The Commission inherited a parole revocation caseload with a serious backlog of warrant requests and revocation hearings. This increase is necessary to correct problems that the federal assumption of responsibility for the D.C. parole system was designed to address.
