News ReleaseFor Release: July 7, 2008 BLM Fire Restrictions Prohibit Target ShootingThe Bureau of Land Management’s Redding Field Office has amended its seasonal fire restrictions, adding a prohibition on target and sport shooting on BLM-managed public lands in Shasta, Tehama, Butte, Trinity and Siskiyou counties. BLM Redding Field Manager Steve Anderson said the shooting restriction is in response to extreme fire danger and a lack of fire fighting resources. Fire restrictions will be in effect until cooler, wetter weather reduces fire risk. Anderson said BLM law enforcement rangers will cooperate with Shasta County sheriff's deputies to enforce the shooting restrictions in Shasta County. Fire restrictions have been in place since May 17, restricting campfires, off highway driving and target shooting.
Violation of the restrictions is punishable by a fine of up to $1,000 and up to 12 months imprisonment or both. -BLM- Redding Field Office 355 Hemsted Drive Redding, CA 96102
