Walter O'Tormey

Walter O'Tormey was named Vice President, Engineering in June 2005. In this role, he reports to the Senior Vice President, Operations and oversees all engineering and development efforts focused on internal processes, including building and equipment maintenance programs and policies, such as those for the organization's Automated Postal Centers and Integrated Retail Terminals. O'Tormey directs all engineering and acquisition support functions, including the design and development of new automation, material handling systems, and vehicles.

Earlier, O'Tormey served as manager of processing operations. In this capacity he worked to improve letter mail efficiency, place more emphasis on flat mail programs and better handle equipment cost control.

O’Tormey joined USPS in 1966 as a distribution clerk in Philadelphia. He held several supervisory and management positions in operations and as distribution systems officer, was responsible for Eastern Region automation implementation. As manager, systems integration support, he helped develop the remote encoding center network.

O’Tormey received the first Board of Governors award in 1996, the Vice President's award in 2002, the Postmaster General's award in 2003 and in 2007, the first Board of Governors award under the Postal Act of 2006.

O'Tormey has a Bachelor’s degree in business administration from St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia.
