 Water Security

EPA works with other federal agencies (e.g., the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Department of Defense) and water organizations (e.g., Water Environment Research Foundation) to improve information on water security technologies and conduct research for water security. Significant actions are underway to develop new security technologies to detect and monitor contaminants and prevent security breaches.

In addition, EPA developed the Water Security Research and Technical Support Action Plan, which was peer reviewed by the National Research Council. This publication presents results of collaborative efforts between EPA and other government agencies, the water industry, public health organizations, and emergency response personnel to identify critical research and technical support needs for protecting drinking and wastewater infrastructures. EPA also supports verification of water security technologies.
