Achieve, Inc.
Created by the nation's governors and business leaders in 1996, Achieve, Inc., is a bipartisan, non-profit organization that helps states raise academic standards, improve assessments and strengthen accountability to prepare all young people for postsecondary education, work and citizenship. Through the American Diploma Project (ADP), Achieve has developed benchmark standards that describe the specific math and English skills high school graduates must have if they are to succeed in postsecondary education and high-performance jobs.

Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation
In 2000, Bill and Melinda Gates created the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to help reduce inequities in the United States and around the world.  Through its partnerships in communities across the United States, the foundation is committed to raising the high school graduation rate and helping all students—regardless of race or family income—graduate as strong citizens ready for college and work. Their Education initiative also works to provide children with opportunities for quality early learning.

Center for Education Reform (CER)
The Center for Education Reform is a national, independent, non-profit advocacy organization founded in 1993 to provide support to parents and teachers, community and civic groups, policymakers and grassroots leaders on education reform issues. The CER publication, Charter School Laws Across the States: Ranking Scorecard and Legislative Profiles, includes detailed profiles of state charter school laws.

Center on Education Policy (CEP)
The Center on Education Policy is a national, independent advocate for public education and for more effective public schools. From the Capital to the Classroom: Year 2 of the No Child Left Behind Act is a report of the first national examination of all main aspects of NCLB implementation at the federal, state, and local levels.

Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO)
The Council of Chief State School Officers is a non-profit organization of the 57 public officials who head departments of public education in the states, the outlying areas, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Department of Defense Dependents Schools. The primary goal of the Council’s work with education indicators is to assist national, state, and local policymakers and leaders in making informed decisions. The policies included in the Key State Education Policies on K-12 Education report are based on the work of Council staff and users in states.

Data Quality Campaign (DQC)/National Center for Educational Accountability (NCEA)
The Data Quality Campaign (DQC) is a national, collaborative effort to encourage and support state policymakers to improve the collection, availability, and use of high-quality education data, and implement state longitudinal data systems to improve student achievement. The DQC goals are to have longitudinal education data systems in 50 states by 2009, increased understanding by policymakers and educators of how to use longitudinal and financial data in their efforts to improve student achievement, and promotion of data standards and efficient data transfer and exchange. The National Center for Educational Accountability (NCEA), managing partner of the Data Quality Campaign, was founded in 2001 through a collaboration of the Education Commission of the States, The University of Texas at Austin, and Just for the Kids.

Education Commission of the States (ECS)
The Education Commission of the States is an interstate compact created in 1965 to improve public education by facilitating the exchange of information, ideas and experiences among state policymakers and education leaders. ECS is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization involving key leaders from all levels of the education system. StateNotes, a publication of the ECS Clearinghouse, includes a wide array of education issues.

Education Week
Education Week is a publication of Editorial Projects in Education Inc., a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization whose publications cover local, state, and national education news and issues. Education Week’s annual Quality Counts report includes state-level data tables on a variety of education policies and performance indicators.

National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification (NASDTEC)
The National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification (NASDTEC) is the organization that represents professional standards boards, commissions and state departments of education that are responsible for the preparation, licensure, and discipline of educational personnel. NASDTEC serves as a clearinghouse on teacher discipline, and promotes high standards for educators, comprehensive personnel screening, and teacher mobility across state lines.

National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), U.S. Department of Education
The National Center for Education Statistics is the primary federal entity for collecting and analyzing data that are related to education in the United States and other nations. The NCES publication, Digest of Education Statistics, includes a selection of data from many sources, both government and private, and draws especially on the results of surveys and activities carried out by various NCES program areas.
