  • Africa Road Safety Review - Under sponsorship of a DOT intermodal international highway safety initiative, the Transportation Research Laboratory (TRL) conducted a research study that investigated the state of road safety in Sub-Saharan Africa. The objective of the study was to analyze existing data and information on the road safety situation in Sub-Saharan Africa in order to identify the data gaps and priority needs.   • NEW Results from a Safety Survey: Workforce Development for Transportation Professionals [HTML, DOC 2.6 MB]
    In order to assess training needs for safety transportation professionals, FHWA surveyed people from 50 FHWA division offices, 9 state Departments of Transportation, Local Technical Assistance Program offices, and the academic community. Responses represented feedback from the transportation safety community, particularly those interested in workforce development. Survey results presented in this report include demographic information on the makeup of the safety workforce and conclusions on the types of training they prefer.
  • Proceedings of the Highway Safety Workforce Planning Workshop [HTML, PDF 276 KB] - The Safety Workforce Planning Workshop was held in San Antonio, Texas on April 34, 2002. The workshop was co-sponsored by Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the Institute of Transportation Engineers, the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials and the Transportation Research Board. It was attended by representatives of organizations in the highway safety community who assessed the needs of the safety workforce and discussed steps that could be taken to ensure transportation agencies have a capable workforce to meet future needs.
