U.S. DOT Grant Improves U.S. 33 Near Canal Winchester, Ohio

The Federal Highway Administration will invest more than $720,000 to improve the U.S. 33 intersection at Winchester-Cemetery Road in Canal Winchester, Ohio, U.S. Transportation Secretary Norman Y. Mineta announced today.

"This funding will help get people to the places they need to go, providing better access to businesses and strengthening our economy," said Secretary Mineta.

The $721,054 grant will enhance business traffic using U.S. 33 and reduce traffic congestion. The project, located a little more than one mile north of the Franklin and Fairfield County lines, will remove the traffic signal at the intersection where Winchester-Cemetery Road connects to U.S. 33. The road will be converted to a cul-de-sac, and Winchester-Pike will be extended east to connect with the Winchester-Cemetery Road north of U.S. 33.

"President Bush knows that transportation investments are ensuring that goods make it to store shelves, and helping drivers in Ohio get to their jobs and home again safely and on time," said Federal Highway Administrator Mary E. Peters.
