Public Comment Period Announced for the Former Delphi Battery Plant Cleanup Plan, Olathe, Kansas

INTRODUCTION 

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 7 is requesting public comments and offering an opportunity for a public hearing on a Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) approval of the PCB Remediation Waste Cleanup Plan submitted by the Delphi Corporation to clean up the former Delphi Battery Plant in Olathe, Kan.

The Delphi Corporation plan is being submitted for public comment by EPA as part of its TSCA PCB cleanup review process as set out by guidance.  Following the comment period, EPA, in consultation with the Kansas Department of Health and the Environment (KDHE), will review all comments and consider if the cleanup plan can be approved.

BACKGROUND

The former Delphi Battery Plant site is located at 400 W. Dennis Avenue, Olathe, Kan.  The site was developed as an automotive battery manufacturing plant in 1955 and has been owned and operated by Delphi Corporation since 1999.

PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD AND REQUEST FOR PUBLIC HEARING

EPA is now accepting comments and requests for a pubic hearing for a period of thirty (30) days beginning April 13, 2007.  Comments must be received by May 14, 2007.  Following the public comment period, the agencies will review all comments and determine whether any modification to the cleanup plan should be made.
