Since you have heart disease or are at high risk for developing it, a cholesterol-lowering (TLC Diet) will likely be prescribed by your doctor. Although a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol is healthy for the entire family (except infants under 2 years of age, who need more calories from fat), the TLC Diet is lower in saturated fat and cholesterol than your family may wish to follow. Because this new diet may include many changes to your current eating plan the doctor may refer you to a registered dietitian (RD) who can help you make these changes.
