PastStat Locator is a new feature on Westlaw that allows you to view the text of statutes from
previous years in three jurisdictions. Once you are in your code section, you can click on the link,
"VERSION", in the left hand column if you are in either the United States Code Annotated
(1/1/96 forward), West's Annotated California Codes (1/1/99 forward) or McKinney's Consolidated
Laws of New York Annotated (1/1/99 forward). You are then given a choice of years and the year
you select will give you the text of the Code as it appeared in that year.
You can also search via the Table of Contents for the three sources listed above. Once you
are on the Table of Contents page for one of these sources, there will be a search box in the lower
right side of the screen that says "Effective Date." You type in the date that you want to search
with the month, day and year in the following format mm/dd/yyyy and the statutes in effect for
that date will be retrieved.
