The Government Printing Office (GPO) has recently upgraded the online
Catalog of U.S. Government Publications
(CGP) on the GPO Access website.
The CGP is the finding tool for electronic and print publications
from the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of the U.S. government. It provides
descriptive records for historical and current publications and supplies direct links to those
that are available online. The catalog is updated daily and will grow to include records for
publications dating back to the late 1800s, making it the central point for locating new and
historical government publications.
Features of the CGP:
- Includes more than 500,000 records generated since July 1976
- Provides direct links to online versions of publications from the cataloging record (when online access is available)
- Provides "Locate a Library" feature within each record to find a nearby Federal depository where
a particular publication or expert assistance can be found
- Basic, Advanced,
and Expert search options
- Searches can be narrowed to specific collections or formats, such as maps, Congressional, or Internet publications
- Search results or selected records can be e-mailed.
Another helpful resource for locating GPO Congressional publications is the
GPO Congressional Publication Releases
page provided by the Law Librarians' Society of Washington, DC (LLSDC).
The page lists the publications by week from 1998 to current.
