GSA, in addition to engineering a major internal reorganization, is pressing forward with an aggressive business agenda topped this week by the 2005 International Products and Services Expo in San Diego, California.

“The Expo is a wonderful forum for our associates to receive training and learn more about GSA’s business,” said Acting Federal Technology Service (FTS) Commissioner Barbara Shelton.

Donna Bennett, Commissioner of GSA’s Federal Supply Service (FSS), added, “I continue to be amazed and extremely proud of the leadership and contributions our associates provide to make the GSA Expo the success it is.”

Administrator Stephen Perry kicked off this year’s event, noting that GSA was pleased to welcome “our 60,000th Expo customer and 4,500th exhibiting company.” Highlights included 180 hours of classroom training and 100 different class sessions. Workshops focused on procurement, program solutions, travel and transportation, and e-business. Most classes offered credit for professional certifications.

“It's a great opportunity for the agency to provide customers information on our many products and services,” Shelton said. “The Expo is an example of GSA’s commitment to making sure our customer federal agencies have what they need to better serve the public.”

“In addition to the recent major initiatives GSA has undertaken, our commitment to our customers has remained strong and is our top priority,” she said.

Shelton was referring primarily to the FTS/FSS reorganization, an on-going initiative designed to produce a new organization that will help GSA meet the Bush Administration’s twin goals of improving agency performance and reducing government spending.

Objectives of the reorganization plan include strengthening the capability of GSA’s business lines to meet increasing customer requirements for excellent acquisition services, and to make it easier for industry contractors to interface with GSA acquisition processes.
