About the Journal BACK TO TOP
Get cutting-edge research and techniques to make your practice more effective through creativity

The Journal of Creativity in Mental Health, the official journal of the Association for Creativity in Counseling, a division of the American Counseling Association, is the valuable interdisciplinary reference source for academics and therapeutic practitioners that examines the benefits and practical applications of using creativity to help deepen self-awareness and build healthy relationships. This refereed journal explores how creative, diverse, and relational therapeutic approaches can be used by therapist and client to cultivate self-discovery, personal growth, and positive relations with family and others. In this journal you will find examples of research, theory, and practice related to creativity, diversity, and relational movement in therapy. Mental Health experts examine the techniques and benefits of using creative mediums in therapy and discuss the enigmatic nature of the creative process itself.

Each issue of the Journal of Creativity in Mental Health provides a wide range of interdisciplinary discussion relative to diverse mental health issues. The journal incorporates high-quality empirical research with cogent in-depth discussion that addresses the topics in both qualitative and quantitative language. Each unique focus encourages rich dialogue between scholars, practitioners, and students, and will include cutting-edge theoretical discussion as well as informative research-oriented articles. Columns edited by invitation will highlight new and interesting publications in the field. In another column, film reviews provide a framework for conceptualizing personality styles and common issues found in human relations.

The journal will creatively explore the full range of counseling and therapeutic topics, including:
  • integrating loss and grief
  • intimacy development and blocks to intimacy
  • cultivating positive relationships
  • diversity and marginalization with a focus on the uses and misuses of power and privilege
  • human sexuality
