A pat-down at Norman Y. Mineta San Jose (Calif.) International Airport led TSO Larry Borges to discover three pounds of methamphetamine on a passenger February 2.

Borges said he "detected an object that did not conform to the contour" of passenger Michael James Cade's body. Borges and TSO David Riviere escorted the passenger to private screening where he surrendered four clear, quart-sized bags of "a crystal-like substance," each wrapped with black electrical tape.

Law enforcement was notified and Cade, 26, was detained for possession of methamphetamines.

"While drug enforcement is not our primary responsibility, what TSO Borges observed in the passenger's appearance and demeanor clearly reflected a potential threat," said Federal Security Director Can Yuen.

According to an Associated Press story, the passenger had an outstanding felony warrant for narcotics and prior convictions for felony theft, grand theft and narcotics possession.
