Ron Mickle, TSA's supervisor for regulatory inspections at Denver International Airport, was recognized last month as an outstanding teacher/mentor at ThunderRidge High School in Highlands Ranch, Colo. As a volunteer teacher for the Denver Astronomical Society, Mickle has helped students understand and appreciate the wonders of the night sky at the University of Denver's Chamberlain Observatory for the past nine years.

At the recognition ceremony, senior Courtney Kais presented a letter to Mickel thanking him for the time and energy he has devoted to the society. She wrote that what Mickle taught her "cannot be learned from a textbook or in a lecture hall. … You have taught me the discipline needed to continue my focus in math and science and provided me with moral support, encouraging me to continue learning and to never give up or quit. For all you have done for me, I thank you."
