TSA Names Federal Security Director at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) today named Corky Caldwell as the new Federal Security Director (FSD) for Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport in Alaska.
"As FSD, Mr. Caldwell is the TSA's personal representative at Anchorage Airport, responsible for ensuring the security of the flying public and carrying out the agency's mission in the war on terror," said Rear Adm. David M. Stone, TSA's acting administrator.
Caldwell previously served eight years as Deputy Director and Operations Manager of Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport where he directly oversaw airside and groundside operations, security programs, law enforcement, field and facilities maintenance, general aviation, and safety and information systems. As Deputy Director, Caldwell successfully directed post-9/11 actions at Anchorage, which enabled the airport to be one of the first in the nation to re-open after the tragic attacks.
Caldwell, a retired Navy captain, earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the U.S. Naval Academy and his Master of Arts at Central Michigan University.
FSDs are directly responsible for a full range of airport security enforcement and oversight including:
- The efficient implementation, performance and enhancement of security and screening standards for TSA employees;
- Airport security risk assessments;
- Supervision of federal law enforcement activity within the purview of the TSA; and
- Organizing and implementing the Federal Security Crisis Management Response Plan for each airport.
The position of Federal Security Director was created by the Aviation and Transportation Security Act signed by President Bush on November 19, 2001. Corky Caldwell will assume his position on the May 3. He replaces Ken Jarman, who left his post in Anchorage to become TSA's Northeast Area Director.
