NEW ORLEANSThe Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has named Larry Austin as the federal security director for Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.

Austin comes to TSA after a 30-year career with the Florida Highway Patrol.

"Larry's hands-on experience in law enforcement and his demonstrated ability to lead will be an asset to TSA's operations in New Orleans," said Lee Kair, TSA's assistant administrator for Security Operations.

Austin joined the Florida Highway Patrol as a trooper in 1978 and was promoted several times through 2001 when he was named Lt. Commander. As second-in-command, Austin was responsible for all aspects of the patrol's field operations. His work also included coordination of the patrol's emergency event response and an assessment of security threats to state-owned properties.

Austin holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Florida A&M University and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.
