National Environmental CrimePrevention Week
The fourth annual National Environmental Crime Prevention Week was officially observed during the week of April 17 - 23, 2005. Training on environmental crime prevention for law enforcement officers and community leaders extends throughout the year.
In a message to recognize the week, President George W. Bush stated that “During the week, the Environmental Protection Agency and other organizations focus on raising awareness about the seriousness of environmental crime, the signs of criminal activity, and the importance of reporting criminal activity to the proper authorities.” Read the entire message (PDF) (1pp, 310KB,About PDF

Each year, communities across the country work in partnership with EPA and the Regional Enforcement Associations to host exciting educational activities and distribute instructional materials to help strengthen relationships among state and local environmental criminal enforcement programs.
- The Northeast Environmental Enforcement Project (NEEP)
, hosted its training conference in Annapolis, Maryland, April 26 - 28.
- The Southern Environmental Enforcement Network (SEEN)
, Midwest Environmental Enforcement Association (MEEA)
, and the Western States Project (WSP) joined forces and hosted a training conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico, May 3 - 6.
Through the issuance of resolutions and declarations, many law enforcement and other professional groups have called upon their members and staff to engage in activities to observe National Environmental Crime Prevention Week. These groups include:
