Lander RMP Revision
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is revising the Resource Management Plan (RMP) for the Lander Field Office. The RMP will provide future direction for 2.5 million acres of BLM-administered surface and 2.7 million acres of BLM-administered mineral estate in central Wyoming. The planning area includes most of Fremont County, and smaller portions of Natrona, Sweetwater, Carbon, and Hot Springs counties, Wyoming. The purpose of the RMP will be to establish goals and objectives for resource management; identify lands that are open or available for certain uses, including any restrictions, and lands that are administratively unavailable to certain uses; provide comprehensive management direction for all resources and uses; and make broad scale decisions guiding future site-specific implementation decisions.
Cooperating Agencies
As part of the planning process, BLM invites tribal, state, and local governments, as well as other federal agencies to serve as cooperating agencies in the preparation of the RMP. After signing a memorandum of understanding with the BLM, cooperators play a key role in developing the RMP and EIS.
Lander Field Office June 18, 2008 Field Trip - The BLM and cooperating agencies have been working together to develop a reasonable range of alternatives for the Lander RMP revision. As part of the June Alternatives Development Workshop, the BLM Lander Field Office held a field trip to tour portions of the planning area with cooperating agencies. The group visited Red Canyon overlook, Crow’s Nest/South Pass, Gillespe/Sweetwater Canyon, and Beaver Rim. At each area, the BLM and cooperating agencies discussed the values as well as the issues of each site. By visiting these areas, the BLM hoped to give cooperating agencies more insight and understanding of the areas, which could then be brought into alternatives development. Public Involvement
Throughout the planning process, there will be formal periods during which the public may submit comments on the RMP. For example, there will be a 90-day public comment period when the Draft RMP/EIS is released. However, the BLM Lander Field Office welcomes public input such as resource information, issues, and concerns during the entire planning process.
