It's still very much winter and today it was 0 as I left for the office. By the end of the week they say it will be almost 50. This time of year is very much a gamble with the weather.
We have a new webcam (although I think it's going to be temporary). We moved the snowman cam to another office to see out a different side of HQ for a while. The snowmen are gone for the season. There is only one tattered remains left.
RSS Feed
We are now going to start with two feeds. The Washington Office for the NPS website has implemented an RSS Feed exclusively for News Releases. Although we had one in place already, we are going to get in line with the rest of the parks and start using their's for the News Releases. We will continue to use the one that was set up here for everything else (webcam news, blogs, happenings, etc...). Watch for that change soon.
Vacation Planner
The 2009 Vacation Planner is now online. It is the main information document that we send out when people request information through the mail. Use it to assist in planning your 2009 trip to the park.
Backcountry Guide
The new Backcountry Camping Guide for 2009 is available online now. Look in the Plan Your Visit section for links to that and other summertime fun, as you plan your next visit to the park.
Widgets
Glacier's RRS Newsfeed Widget and the Webcam Widget have been updated and the bugs fixed. Both can be downloaded from our Widget Page. The National Office of the NPS has also instituted an RSS feed for Press Releases only. We will be adjusting our's soon to accommodate theirs. Watch for a message if you are signed up to the existing one.
Going-to-the-Sun Road Winter Access
Part of the Going-to-the-Sun Road is still open for use. Weather permitting it is maintained year-round as far as Lake McDonald Lodge. Visitors can still drive that ten miles from the West Entrance, along the lake, up to the lodge. From there the rest of the road is open for snowshoeing and skiing until spring plowing begins. Other ski and snowshoe trails are available in the park and information is available at the Apgar Visitor Center on weekends and at Park Headquarters Monday through Friday.
